Dave Parker, owner of Vintage Blast Inc. worked in the industry of Custom Media Blasting at RMC Industries in Edmonton, Alberta as the Production Manager for over 11 years. Dave worked alongside his friend and mentor Jim McLeay (Owner of RMC Industries), who sadly passed away on May 15, 2018. With the passing of Jim and the subsequent family shutdown of RMC, Dave was suddenly at a crossroad where he had to choose between finding a new job working for someone else or start a new venture and open his own business, which was his long time dream. That’s when Vintage Blast Inc. was born, owned and operated by Dave and his wife Melissa, along with valuable support from their good friend Zac Faulkner and their family.

The Process

Sandblasting is a process in which sand, glass beads or some other medium is shot at high speed through a machine across the surface of a hard material until it is sanded smooth. Sandblasting is often done to remove a previous finish on an item, to remove rust, or to prepare a surface to receive a new coat of paint. The kind of medium used to blast the surface depends on how difficult the removal is and how much impact the material can withstand.
Vintage Blast Inc. uses two blasting media; plastic and aluminum oxide – both of which are less aggressive and less likely to cause problems than sand.
  • Plastic Media Blasting is a process for the rapid, economic and safe removal of coatings from almost any surface without the use of toxic chemical strippers, sandblasting, or hand or mechanical abrasion methods. The process is similar in principle to sandblasting. However, instead of using hard silica sand, much softer reusable plastic particles are used at low blasting pressures. With low pressures, the plastic media is able to remove coatings without causing damage to the underlying substrates including steel, aluminum, pot metal and cast iron.
  • Aluminum Oxide is great for taking all the rust of the old frames. Oxide is much more abrasive and well suited for cutting through and removing the hard rust you usually find on exposed chassis components.
